St. Lawrence Corridor at a Glance
An area that helped shap the destiny of Canada, the St. Lawrence Corridor has
been home to battles and barracks, politicians and unions, fur trappers and
farmers, industrialists and inventors. This region, which lies alongside the
waters of the St.
Lawrence River as it flows northeast from Lake
Ontario to the Gulf
of St. Lawrence, is home to over a thousand islands. Farmland and orchards
lie besides the river's banks, while vibrant towns and cities hold modern shops,
cultural centres and museums alongside historic sites. Step back in history
with a visit to the pre-1867 Upper
Canada Village Heritage Park, watch a military drill at Fort
Henry or explore Kingston's
many 18th and 19th-century buildings and squares. Spend a day sampling Prince
Edward County's fruit and berry wines or on the beaches of Sandbanks
Provincial Park. In July, take in Brockville's
musical Riverfest
and join the four-day long Canada Day celebrations in Cornwall.
