In the late 18th-early 19th centuries, Prescott was an important shipping point. Because of its advantageous location, it became a target during the British-American war in 1812. This brought about the construction of Fort Wellington, which was completed the month the war ended (December, 1814). The Fort was used sporadically from then on. Today visitors can witness theatrical presentations, receive historical information from an interpretive guide, and view exhibits and displays. Open daily from mid-May until late September.
